Educator – Evangelist – Change Agent
Jon is one of the pioneers of the Flipped Class Movement. He spent 24 years as a middle and high school science teacher before becoming the lead technology facilitator for a school district in the Chicago suburbs. Today Jon is dedicated to writing, speaking and otherwise evangelizing the flipped classroom concept. Jon co-founded the Flipped Learning Network, a non-profit organization which provides resources and research about flipped learning.
In 2002, Jon received the Presidential Award for Excellence for Math and Science Teaching; and in 2010, he was named Semi-Finalist for Colorado Teacher of the Year. He serves on the advisory board for TED-Education. In 2013 he, along with Aaron Sams was one of Tech & Learning’s 10 Most Influential of 2013 and he, along with Aaron Sams,finalists for the Brock International Prize for Education. In 2013, Jon received a Bammy Award from the Academy of Education Arts and Sciences for his pioneering work on flipped learning.
Jon is a master storyteller, captivating audiences around the globe. He has a knack for taking complex things and simplifying through story and humor. Though most of his keynotes are about flipped learning, he also speaks about the power of a teacher in students lives and how to make complex things simple. Jon is the father of three amazing young people (his oldest Caleb is married to Alyssa) and is happily married to Kris, the love of his life.
Currently, Jon helps educators and corporations by bringing flipped learning into schools and organizations. He continues to write about education both on this blog and in books. He co-wrote seven books with Aaron Sams:
